SSTG provides Marine Training Services from our headquarters based in Rochester, Kent.
Our services for Shipping Companies and other organisations employing Deck, Engineer and Electro Officers and seafarers. include:
Recruitment:
- The selection and recruitment of new-entrant Deck, Engineer and Electro Technical Officer Trainees.
Training Management:
- The management of all aspects of training required by new entrant candidates to the maritime industry.
Meeting the training requirements of SSTG Member Companies for experienced candidates to qualify for the issue of CoCs up to Master and Chief Engineer. - The organisation of a wide range of ancillary training and qualifications required by seafarers in the British Merchant Navy.
Grant Funding Claims Service:
- SSTG provides a full Grant Funding Claims Service, irrespective of whether a company has contracted us to manage their training needs.
Comprehensive Specialist Advice and Information:
- Member Companies have access to SSTG’s Knowledgebase, providing invaluable resource information on marine training and certification.
Consultancy and Project Management:
- SSTG specialists are available to carry out an extensive range of consultancy and project work on behalf of our Member Companies.
- Recent projects have included the identification of future training requirements, manpower, resource and succession planning, and the provision of IT-based personnel system planning solutions.

The services we provide for Merchant Navy Officer Trainees include:
New Entrant Recruitment & Sponsorship:
- SSTG recruits new entrant Deck, Engineer and ETO Officer Cadets who are seeking a rewarding career at sea onboard our members’ vessels operating worldwide.
Training Management:
- We organise and oversee the training undertaken utilising MNTB / MCA Approved Training Programmes.
- The college phases of study are completed at specialist universities or colleges of further education throughout the UK.
Support:
- In conjunction with our sponsoring Member Companies and nautical colleges, we provide our trainees with guidance throughout their training.
- SSTG monitors the progress achieved, providing the level of support required for the successful completion of the training being undertaken.

We can also offer the following:
