"Aye m'lad. We DO run an employee incentive scheme."
There are careers - and there are Merchant Navy Careers. You can find out more on this web site and you can get a full information pack and application form by completing the online inquiry form, or by phoning 01634 820 820
- The Merchant Navy provides a career like no other - a career at
sea and opportunities ashore in the wider maritime sector.
- World-class training programmes provide first-class qualifications
to progress your career in the Merchant Navy in the navigation or engineering
department while onboard hi-tech, modern commercial ships operating world-wide.
- The main entry route is the Foundation Degree-based programme,
which is "A" level entry and requires 120 UCAS points in unspecified "A" levels. You
will also be expected to have good grades in GCSE English, Maths, Physics/Combined
Science and one other subject. In Scotland, entry for this route is
the Highers and Standard Grade equivalents to the "A" level
entry points and GCSEs listed.
- Shipping companies need officers, chief engineers and ship's
captains of the future, and will sponsor your education and training, meeting
training costs and course fees. As well as the Foundation Degree, you
will gain professional seafaring 'Certificates of Competency' that
allow you to work on board any ship, anywhere in the world. The
Foundation Degree also provides opportunities for further personal development
with progression into the third year of an Honours Degree.
- During your course, you will spend alternating periods of time
at a nautical college and at sea on board various types of vessel - from
a ferry, cruise ship, containership, tanker, bulk carrier or other specialist
ship, depending on your sponsoring company.
- Training lasts approximately three years, and usually consists
of three college "phases" and two sea "phases", although
this may vary according to the college and the company that sponsors you. Your
sponsoring company may also require other qualifications for entry than
those indicated above.
- By contacting the Ship Safe Training Group you
are dealing with an organisation with over 25 years' experience
in the industry. We recruit on behalf of 30 companies operating in excess
of 300 ships.
- Alternative entry routes are available for those who don't meet the Foundation Degree-based programme requirements. They include GCSE entry, right through to entry for those who have prior experience in engineering, or who have science, technology or engineering-based degrees. We are always pleased to provide clear and impartial advice to any individual requiring further information on the options available to them.
