Outcome:
A STCW ’95 OOW (Officer Of The Watch Certificate of Competency), plus EDECXEL/SQA National/Scottish Vocational Qualifications Levels 2/3 in Marine Operations and EDEXCEL HND.
Minimum Entry Requirements:
4 GCSE/SCE’s at grade A-C/1-3 to include Maths, Physics (or acceptable science award e.g. Duel Science) and English, or equivalent.
Framework:
7 alternating sea and college phases as per the outline below.
Sea Service Requirement:
12 months minimum (however, the majority of candidates are likely to complete in the order of 15 months before being considered ready for final assessment).
Watchkeeping Service:
6 months minimum completed within the last 12 months of sea service.
College Time:
74/76 weeks, excluding college holidays and optional elements.
Total Time:
3 years, 4 months, to first certificate (based on 15 months sea service).
College:
Fleetwood, Glasgow Nautical College, South Tyneside and Warsash.
Leave:
Included with the sea periods.
Start Dates:
September, January and April/May each year.
