Attending an Interview

Your application form will be reviewed by our Recruitment Officer to see if you meet the entry requirements and a suitable vacancy exists. First interviews are carried out by SSTG, and these are usually conducted at our offices in Rochester, Kent. Download a copy of our Guidelines to a Successful Interview here. A second interview may be required and will give you the opportunity to meet the proposed shipping company and ask specific questions about their fleet and the opportunities open to you.

Following a successful interview process, offers of sponsorship are made subject to a seafarers medical having been passed and any outstanding academic requirements being met. Stringent drug and alcohol policies apply within the Merchant Navy and new applicants are required to comply with company policies in this respect. With many companies trading right across the world it is often a requirement that individuals will also need to qualify for visas to gain entry to any countries with whom their company may trade.
